How to make a rugged external power supply
When you are using a laptop computer in the remote regions of Afghanistan or similar locales, you might want a power supply that is more rugged than those on the shelf at your local retailer. That’s the idea behind the ruggedized power sources from Lind Electronics Inc. To make its modules more bullet-proof, Lind fills its enclosures with epoxy. Examples of modules made with this packaging approach include a dual USB adapter at left and a 90-W dc/sc converter with a 20 to 60-V input range as might be used with heavy equipment that provides 22 to 45 V input power.
